Sarah Ethel McAfee Passed Away Suddenly

Sarah Ethel McAfee was born to Samuel and Lydia Davis McAfee at Mechanicsville on January 14, 1886, and died in her home suddenly on March 10, 1944 at the age of 58 years, one month and ftwenty-six days. She had been in failing health for some time, but never complained, and apparently seemed as though it was nothing to be alarmed about. Death came to her while asleep. Life was stilled without suffering. She is survived by her son, S/Sgt. Gerald E. McAfee of England, his wife. One sister and four brothers, Daniel McAfee, Mechanicsville, Iowa, Benjamin McAfee of Tipton, Iowa, Lawrence McAfee of Hampton, Iowa, Frances S. McAfee of Maywood, California and Mrs. John Lerch, Rock Island, Illinois.
Funeral services were held Sunday, March 12, 1944, at 2 PM at the Methodist Church in Mechanicsville, Iowa, with Rev. Bernard Kemper officiating. Mrs. A. Byrne and Mrs. Mildred More sang accompanied by Mrs. C. Norris as organist. U.S.W.A. members attended in a group. Burial was in Rose Hill Cemetery at Mechanicsville, Iowa. Pallbearers were Dr. A.W. Cruse, Louis Hudachek, Will McKibben, Marshall Young, H.D. Scott and H. C. Rinehart.
Those who attended the funeral from a distance were Mr. and Mrs. Lawrence McAfee of Hampton, Iowa, Matt Aldrich and family, Miss Francis Eichelberger of Cedar Rapids, Iowa; Mr. and Mrs. Bernard Lerch, Mr. and Mrs. John Lerch and Emil Lerch of Rock Island, Illinois; Mr. and Mrs. Geo. Cronkhite of Davenport, Iowa, Mrs. Harry Myers and brother Leroy McAfee of Bennett, Iowa; and Mrs. Donald Eichelberger and son and Miss Jean Eichelberger of Anamosa, Iowa; Mr and Mrs. Benjamin McAfee of Tipton, Iowa; Mrs. Robert Eichelberger, Mr. and Mrs. Lucien Burgess and Maynard Martin of Stanwood, Iowa.
