When Harland McAfee died in 1935 the economy was struggling and unemployment was high. He had been ill for a long time and unable to work so his young wife and children were just getting by with no extra money available to buy him a headstone. He was buried in a pauper's grave with only a number for identification. Finally in 2005, 4 grandchildren who never met him decided to give him the honor and respect he deserved and purchased a headstone to mark his grave. This was also a Father's Day gift to one of his remaining sons.
