My 3rd great grandfather. His middle name is probably Marion.

A record was added stating he was a veteran of the Civil War and served in a Michigan regiment. There are so many William Cooks that I am sure if he did serve in the Civil War he would have enlisted in Missouri.

He married Susan Miller March 21, 1850 in Bollinger County; brother of Nathaniel. He raised Nathaniel's youngest son, Jacob Nathaniel, after his mother died. Jacob married one of William's daughters, Almeda Emma, his first cousin. His wife's name is on the opposite side of this tombstone.

William M. and Susie Cook donated one acre of land for a cemetery on October 7, 1885 and the cemetery was named for them. A second portion containing one more acre was purchased from Rev. George Tallent by James Bridges about 1900, and it was also donated for the cemetery which is located about one-half mile north of Scopus.
