VIRGINIA'S OBITUARY
VIRGINIA LOUISE CHAMBERS

Virginia Louise Chambers was born July 31, 1929 in rural Warren County, IA, and passed away at her home on Tuesday, April 9, 2019, at the age of 89. She was the fifth of six children born to Henry and Esther (Lame) Broyles. Virginia was united in marriage to Eugene Chambers on June 1, 1947. They purchased a home in Indianola where they raised their family. To this union three children were born: Stephen of West Des Moines, Danny of Rice Lake, WI, and Ronald of Indianola.

Virginia was a homemaker and spent her days caring for her family and tending to her garden and flowers. Virginia lost her husband in 1966 and remained in their home to raise their three sons. She then started work for the State of Iowa in the Department of Revenue, where she retired in 1994.

During her active retirement, she loved to spend time outdoors taking care of her large flower garden and traveling across the United States with her sister Frances, brother Richard and his wife Virginia. Virginia was able to travel to every state except Hawaii and the New England states. She was also an active member in the Ackworth Garden Club. She enjoyed keeping busy by embroidering tea towels and quilt tops which were given away as birthday and Christmas gifts. She loved crocheting afghans and was told by her son Ronald that she kept half of Warren County warm with them as she always gave them away as gifts that have become treasured keepsakes. But her greatest enjoyment was doing things with her grandchildren and great grandchildren. Two of her favorite things to tell her grandchildren were “Life’s too short to be mad” and “You have the same pants to get glad in.”

Virginia was preceded in death by her parents; husband, Gene Chambers; sister, Frances Stalter; and brothers, Victor, Junior and Richard Broyles.

She is survived by her children, Steve (Barb) Chambers, Dan (Sue) Chambers, and Ron (Peggy) Chambers; eight grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren; sister, Lucille Henry; and a host of other relatives and friends.

Funeral services will be held 1:30 p.m., Saturday, April 13th at Overton Funeral Home in Indianola with burial following in the Indianola I.O.O.F. Cemetery. Visitation will be held from 4 to 8 p.m., Friday, April 12th at Overton Funeral Home where family will be present to greet friends from 5 to 8 p.m. Memorials may be made to the American Heart Association.
