She was born in 1922 in Somerville, Texas, to Burt and Mary Strickland who moved then to Odessa. She met Donald Ross Snyder in El Paso, Texas, during World War II. They were married March 5, 1943, at Camp Shelby, Mississippi, and Donald returned to the war. A daughter, Faye, was born to them in Odessa in 1945. Donald returned from the war to greet his wife and his 9-month-old daughter in early 1946. They had a son, Larry, born in 1946.
Lorene was a Mary Kay Cosmetics consultant for 20 years. She also worked as a volunteer for the VFW taking care of our veterans in Big Spring, Texas. She loved oil painting and crafts. Nothing was too big for her to tackle. She and her father even built a couple of houses still standing on the Southside of Odessa. She was preceded in death by her parents; and five of her brothers and sisters, Bill Strickland, Melton Strickland, Lula Metcalf, Elnora Clark and Leroy Strickland. Her brother, David Strickland, lives in Chandler, Texas. Her son, Larry Snyder, died last September.
She is survived by her husband, Donald, who is currently at Hospice House and will join her shortly; and by her daughter, Faye Hall of Odessa. She had five grandchildren, Michelle Hanson of McAllen, Texas, Robin Hall of Abilene, Texas, John Hall, deceased, Larry Scott Snyder and Stacy Brian, both of Odessa. She had nine great-grandchildren; and four great-great-grandchildren.
Services will be held at Sunset Memorial Funeral Home Chapel on Thursday, July 3, 2008, at 3:30 p.m. with Jimmy Braswell officiating. Interment will follow at Sunset Memorial Gardens.
