Mrs. Sarah Bilke
, 46, Quapaw, route 1, passed away at 10:15 o'clock Tuesday morning at St. John's Medical Center in Joplin, where she had been a patient for two weeks.

Mrs. Bilke was born August 22, 1922 in Galena, Kan. And had lived in Quapaw for 20 years.

She was united in marriage to Verle Bilke at Miami, Okla. July 14, 1943.

She was a member of the Baptist church.

Loved ones who survive are her husband, Verle Bilke; a daughter, Mrs. Verla Mae Orcutt of Miami, Okla; four sons, Jim Bilke, Ronnie Bilke, Ralph Bilke, and Jerry Bilke, all of the home; three brothers, Bill Bailey of Nowata, Okla. and Bob Bailey and Thomas Bailey, both of Galena, Kan.; four sisters, Mrs. Retha Vaughn of Millstadt, Ill., Mrs. Nellie Lane, Mrs. Rayma Eckler and Mrs. Rachel Brooks, all of Galena, Kan; four grandchildren and a host of friends.

The family are at 2204 Main st., Galena, Kan. Memorial services will be conducted at 2:30 o'clock this afternoon (Thursday) in the chapel of Derfelt funeral home with the Rev. Cecil Smith of Joplin, Mo. officiating.

Jerry Wade will sing "Old Rugged Cross" and "In the Garden" with accompanist Mrs. Leilia Tennis.

Pallbearers will be Clarence Bacon, Chester McMinn, Richard Barrett, Jerry Orcutt, Joe Bob Nodine and Tommie Crabtree.

She will be laid to rest in Oak Hill cemetery with arrangements under the direction of the Derfelt funeral home of Galena.

Verl Bilke

QUAPAW, Okla. – Verl C. Bilke, 77, 3151 S. 660 Road, died at 3:27 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Hospital West after a long illness.

Mr. Bilke was born Nov. 25, 1918, at Seneca, Mo. He lived in Quapaw most of his life.

He was a truck driver for Yellow Freight Co., Baxter Springs, Kan. He retired in 1980.

He was a member of Quapaw Baptist Church and Baxter Springs Saddle Club.

He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Baxter Springs Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M. He was a member of Miami American Legion. He was on the steering committee of the National Kidney Foundation. He was a member of the Missouri Governor's Mounted Guard.

He married Lena Johnson in 1972 at Atoka. She survives.

Additional survivors include four sons, Jim Bilke and Jerry Bilke, both of Baxter Springs, and Ron Bilke and Ralph Bilke, both of Quapaw; a daughter, Verla Mae White, Laverne; two stepsons, Mike Hook, Atoka, and Ken Hook, Quapaw; two brothers, Len Bilke, Miami, and Wayne Bilke, Grove; a sister, Margie Sappington, Commerce; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.

Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Derfelt's Baxter Chapel, Baxter Springs.

Burial will be at Hornet (Mo.) Cemetery.

Pallbearers will be Jim Bilke, Jerry Bilke, Ron Bilke, Ralph Bilke, Mike Hook and Ken Hook.

The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel.
