Verl Bilke
QUAPAW, Okla. – Verl C. Bilke, 77, 3151 S. 660 Road, died at 3:27 p.m. Tuesday at Freeman Hospital West after a long illness.
Mr. Bilke was born Nov. 25, 1918, at Seneca, Mo. He lived in Quapaw most of his life.
He was a truck driver for Yellow Freight Co., Baxter Springs, Kan. He retired in 1980. He was a member of Quapaw Baptist Church and Baxter Springs Saddle Club.
He was an Army veteran of World War II and a member of the Disabled American Veterans. He was a member of Baxter Springs Masonic Lodge, A.F. & A.M. He was a member of Miami American Legion. He was on the steering committee of the National Kidney Foundation. He was a member of the Missouri Governor's Mounted Guard.
He married Lena Johnson in 1972 at Atoka. She survives.
Additional survivors include four sons, Jim Bilke and Jerry Bilke, both of Baxter Springs, and Ron Bilke and Ralph Bilke, both of Quapaw; a daughter, Verla Mae White, Laverne; two stepsons, Mike Hook, Atoka, and Ken Hook, Quapaw; two brothers, Len Bilke, Miami, and Wayne Bilke, Grove; a sister, Margie Sappington, Commerce; 21 grandchildren; and 21 great-grandchildren.
Services will be at 10 a.m. Thursday at Derfelt's Baxter Cha-pel, Baxter Springs.
Burial will be at Hornet (Mo.) Cemetery.
Pallbearers will be Jim Bilke, Jerry Bilke, Ron Bilke, Ralph Bilke, Mike Hook and Ken Hook.
The family will receive friends from 7 to 8 p.m. today at the chapel.
