Henry John Brandt was born August 27, 1916, in Sioux Falls, SD, to Carl and Mary Brandt. He grew up in the Harrisburg area and attended Simmons Country School. On April 9, 1939, he married Ethel Thompson at First Lutheran in Sioux Falls, SD, They had six children. They farmed in the Harrisburg area from 1939 to early 1954. They moved to the Harford area and have resided there since February 1954. Henry served on several school boards both in the Harrisburg and Wall Lake areas. He served on the REA Board, local Farmers Union and attended Zion Lutheran Church. Since his retirement, Henry and Ethel have traveled extensively. Henry enjoyed farming, doing various craft items and playing cards. He expecially enjoyed the family campouts and providing the firewood for the nightly campfires. One of his special joys was to work with his family and help them with various projects, guiding and supporting them. Henry always had time to listen and never had an unkind word to say about anyone. Henry was preceded in death by his parents. He survived by his wife, Ethel of fifty-seven years; his children: Roger and his wife, Terry of Sioux Falls, SD; Mary Kistler of Hanover, IL; Susan and her husband, Dan Jorgensen of Northfield, MN; Ronald and his wife, Kathy, of Annandale, MN; Daniel and his wife, Cathy of Sioux Falls, SD; Karen and her husband, Mark Posey of Titonka, IA; seventeen grandchildren and four great grandchildren. He also is survived by his sister, Margaret Hall of Sioux Falls, SD; and many nieces, nephews and friends. Services will begin at 11 am Tuesday at Zion Lutheran Church, West Wall Lake, with burial in Hills of Rest Memorial Park Cemetery, Sioux Falls.
