Information provided by relatives:
His father James Alexander Dewar was born in Bruges, Belgium.
His mother Stella Cora (Conley) Dewar was born in Madison, Dane County, Wisconsin.
His wife Ethel (Allen) Dewar was born in Burlington, Des Moines County, Iowa.

He and his new wife Ethel and brother James Harvey left El Dorado, Kansas in Feb 1907. Later in 1907 the brothers were bakers in Tacoma, Washington for a short time. After arriving in Bakersfield, George and his brother started Dewar's Candy Shop in Bakersfield in 1909. He and Ethel moved to Taft in 1914 and he started his own candy and soft drink store while his brother continued the candy store business in Bakersfield. That store is still going strong in 2021.
George was a veteran of the Philippine-American War. He was a clarinet player in the 40th U. S. Volunteer Infantry Regiment band, serving mostly on Mindanao Island in the Philippines. George also answered the call and re-enlisted into the Army during World War I and conducted a baking school while in the 391st Bakery Company, Quartermaster Corps, at The Presidio in San Francisco, California. He attained the rank of First Sergeant.
In about 1954 I started playing the clarinet and George's brother, my grandfather, gave me George's clarinet. I later had it restored and I can still play it today.
