Eliza Armstrong Ahrenkiel, 94, of Springfield died Thursday at Memorial Medical Center. She was born April 19, 1903, in Oakford, the daughter of Ryal and Martha Ann Skaggs Armstrong. She married Lawrence L. "Stump" Ahrenkiel in 1925; he preceded her in death.

Mrs. Ahrenkiel attended Petersburg High School, the Betty Stuart School of Springfield and Normal University. She taught first grade in Oakford and Athens and along with her husband, owned and operated a General Motors dealership in Athens.

She was a former member of the Athens United Methodist Church and past president of the Athens United Methodist Women, a member of Eastern Star and the Illini Country Club. She was a member of First United Methodist Church in Springfield, Chapter FU of the PEO Sisterhood and over a 50 year member of the Pierre Menard Chapter of DAR of which she was an honorary Regent.

Survivors: several nieces and nephews; and several great-nieces and great-nephews.

Services: Mott and Henning Funeral Home, Athens, the Rev. Norman Mendell officiating. Burial: Hall Cemetery, Athens.
