Mrs. Helen M. Bell, 53, widow of Captain Thomas J. Bell, died Sunday about noon at her home, 823 State Street, after a lingering illness.
Mrs. Bell was born here Apr. 21, 1883, a daughter of James and Mary Gibbons Pinkerton. She was a life-long resident of the city and passed away in the same house where she was born.
She married the late Captain Thomas G. Bell, a well known Great Lakes steamboat master. Captain Bell perished on Dec. 8 1909 in Lake Erie when his ship, the Clarion, caught fire and went down. Half of the crew was saved. Captain Bell's body was later recovered.
Mrs. Bell was a devout member of St. Mary's Cathedral parish and belonged to the Sacred Heart, the Rosary and St. Anthony Societies.
She is survived by one daughter, Miss Helen E. Bell. Another daughter, Mary, died Apr. 28, 1930.
Mrs. Bell was an esteemed resident and a devoted mother, and her death will be mourned by a wide circle of friends throughout Ogdensburg.
Funeral services will be conducted Wednesday morning at 8.30 o'clock from the home in State Street, and a half hour later at St. Mary's Cathedral. Interment will he at the family plot In St. Mary's Cemetery.
