Rev. Robert McClure was born in Northern Ireland, County Antrim. His family originally came from the towns near Galloway, Scotland. Robert immigrated to America in the 1850's with his family and settled in Habersham County, GA. He and his younger brothers were part of the Confederate Army in the Civil War, where Robert was a Captain and a Chaplain, serving in Company K, 24th GA Regiment under his Uncle, Col. Robert McMillan. He later served during the March on Atlanta, where he lost most of his hearing because of canon fire exploding near him. When he returned home to Habersham County, he began his family, was successful in agriculture and helped start the church, New Liberty Methodist, where he was a minister until his death. He led many souls to Jesus. Rev. Robert McClure was well-known as a kind and humble true Scotch-Irish gentleman.
