OBITUARY

Mrs. Almeda Harris Crook was born June 1st, 1864, in Holt county (sic), Missouri, and passed away at the Brodstone hospital In Superior Sunday morning, August 13.

She was united in marriage to Stephen A. Douglas Crook Jan. 17, 1881. To this union were born fourteen children, ten boys and four girls.

They made their home at Salem, Neb., until 1898, when they moved to Nuckolls county (sic), near Mt. Clare. Living there until the fall of 1925, when they came to Superior.

Preceding her in death were her husband and seven children. Mrs. Crook's twin sister, Alzada, passed away in the year, 1917. These two sisters had married brothers.

Those left to mourn her death are: Mrs. B. W. Barnes, Omaha, Neb.; Clyde and Jesse Crook, Denver, Colo.; Walter Crook, Mt. Clare, Neb,; John, Robert and Mrs. Jewel Wilson, Superior her sister, Mrs. Jennie Smartt, Wichita, Kan.; twenty-two grandchildren, (two of these being twins), four great grandchildren, (also two of these being twins), other relatives and a host of friends.

Mrs. Crook, being one of the early settlers, was known to meet all emergencies as only the pioneer mothers learned to do. She was always ready to lend a helping hand to a neighbor when In trouble, and many a fevered brow has been cooled through her faithful care and watchfulness. Always on duty to guide the young mother as she assumed her new responsibilities.

Mrs. Crook united with the Methodist church by letter April 4, 1926, and has been a faithful member since.

The out-of-town relatives attending the funeral were Mrs. Jennie Smartt, half sister, Wichita, Kan. Mr. and Mrs. Roy Crook and family, Benkelman, Neb., Mr. and Mrs. Ike Smith and daughter, Mrs. Fay Windrum, and Mr. Ray Crook, all of Salem, Neb., Mr. and Mrs. Ira Crook and Guy Crook of Lincoln, Neb.

The funeral was held Tuesday morning at 10 o'clock at the Methodist church, with Rev. Whitman in charge. Burial was in the Beulah cemetery (sic) near Mt. Clare.
