1864 Nov 12 pg 2 col 2 Santa Rosa County Democrat -"Burned to death-Friday of last week, a little girl six year old step daughter of J.J. Lane of this township was burned to death under the following painful circumstances. The child had gotten hold of some friction matches, and in the absence of its mother ignited them and set fire to its clothing. Before the mother succeeded in subduing the fire the little girl was so badly burned that she only lived but a short time. Only a day or two previous, a boy of Mr. Lane, 11 years of age, was entangled in a reatta while engaged in catching a wild horse and severely injured, by being dragged upon the ground until being rescued by a neighbor"
