Jabez and his twin brother, Samuel, was born 22 Feb 1827 in Athens, Athens County, Ohio. Samuel died in infancy, but Jabez lived to be about fifty-seven, dying in 1884. In the spring of 1844, after his father died, Jabez went to live with his brother, James, in Trigg County, Kentucky. He married Sarah Virginia Daniel of Caldwell County, Kentucky. They lived in Wallonia and had five children, but only two lived to be grown.
After the Civil War began, Jabez enlisted in the Confederate Army in 1861 and became Capt of Engineers on Gen Loring's staff. His wife died a few years after he returned home from the war.
Jabez married, second, widow Susan Norris Hobson. They had no children. Jabez was a farmer and a mechanic.
