Dr Elizabeth "Lizzie" Eldridge married on 4 Dec 1871 William I. Joy in her family home at 1530 Farnam (SW corner Farnam and Kirkwood Blvd).
She is divorced in the 1880 Iowa federal census and living with her parents. They had 2 boys: Roy b 1873 and died 17 Feb 1875 in Valley City (Pleasant Valley, Scott, IA), and Maynard b 5 Feb 1880 in both in Davenport. Maynard was living in NYC at his mother's death. He died Mar 1968 in Bedford, Middlesex, MA and is buried in Bedford's Shawsheen Cemetery.
About 1882, Dr. Elizabeth married Dr. Reuben F. Eldridge b Mar 1858 in PA, son of Joseph G (b 1825) and Lucinda Arnold Eldridge, according to family, Reuben and Lizzie were not related.
Reuben graduated from the University of Iowa Medical College in 1881.
The family moved to Dawson, Dallas, IA, a small railroad town west of Des Moines. Reuben successfully practiced medicine, operated a brick mfg co and leader of Dawson Coronet Band. He would not allow his wife to practice as a doctor because her training did not agree with his medical philosophy. They had 4 children: Madge, Joseph M, Waldo E. and Minnie.
They were divorced sometime before 1910.
"Lizzie" moved with her children to Ames, Story, IA where she lived for 20 years before her death from diabetes. She was a member of the Christian Science Church and is buried in Ames Municipal Cemetery with son Joseph.
