Baker – At Big Pine, Saturday, January 24th, 1885, William A. Baker, aged 56 years, 4 months and 8 days.

--William A. Baker was born in Hanover County, Virginia. He came to California in 1849 and for some time after his arrival mined on the Yuba River. From there he went to Stockton and from that place to Angels Camp, Calaveras County, where he was again engaged in mining. In company with his brother-in-law, Mr. A. N. Bell, now of Independence, Mr. Baker came to Inyo in the spring of “63, and went into mining at San Carlos, where he continued for the next few years. He next made a location of land at Big Pine, and in 1972 was married to Miss Fanny White. From the time of his marriage till his death Mr. Baker lived upon his farm, which he continued to improve till it is one of the finest places in the county. Mrs. Baker is left with three children, two boys and a girl. A large concourse of people from all over the county attended the funeral to pay the last tribute of respect to him, whose honorable character won the respect and confidence of all who knew him.
