Peter Perkins was the son of Thomas "Blazer Tom" Perkins and Elizabeth (Branham) Perkins. Peter is living with his parents in Whitley County, Kentucky in the 1850 and 1860 Census'.
Peter Perkins' enlisted as a Private on 20 August 1861 at the age of 17 in Company G, 7th Infantry Regiment Kentucky. Peter was wounded in his left arm in Vicksburg on May 22, 1863.
Peter Perkins' was discharged for wounds from Company G, 7th Infantry Regiment Kentucky on 5 Oct 1864. Mary A Perkins was listed on his Pension Index as his widow in 1891.
There appears to be only one Peter Perkins listed in Company G, 7th Inf. I believe the marker placed at Peter Perkins (1826-1896) was placed in error.
Peter Perkins married Mary Ann Lay between 1860 and 1870.
In the 1870 Census, Peter and wife, Mary Ann (Lay) Perkins, are living between her parents, Elijah and Jane, and her brother Lewis M. and Peggy Lay in Boston, Whitley County, Kentucky.
In the 1880 U.S. Census, Peter and Mary were living as a married couple in Whitley County, Kentucky. Jesse Brooks was lodging with them.
On 18 December 1893 list of heirs of T C Perkins, Peter Perkins is listed as deceased and his widow, Mary A. Perkins, was listed as an heir. Will Book Three page 499.
On August 29, 1922, Mary A Perkins Brooks filed as a remarried widow for the Pension of Peter Perkins of Co. G, 7th Regiment Kentucky Volunteer Infantry.
