St. George, Utah – Betty Ruth Owens Brown, 77, a beautiful daughter of God, passed away Saturday, June 7, 2008 after a valiant battle with cancer. She was born March 21, 1931 in Panguitch, Utah to Joseph Owens and Ruth Eliza Dodds Owens. She met Lewis James Brown while attending Dixie College and they married on July 7, 1950 in the St. George LDS Temple, in St. George, Utah.

Betty was born and raised in Panguitch, Utah by pioneer settlers of Southern Utah. Our mother was a faithful member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter Day Saints. She served in many callings in the church including primary, relief society and most recently a young women's advisor. She was Christ-like in all aspects of her life, loving all and judging none. She enjoyed spending time in Panguitch, quilting and sewing and was well-known for her baking and excellent candy-making. She made her family the focus of her life and especially loved large family gatherings. Her children and grandchildren learned to love each other through her devoted example. She will live in all of our hearts forever.

Betty is survived by her husband Lewis James Brown of St. George, Utah; Her children Kenneth Brown (Barbara) of Carson City, Nevada; Sheila Deuley (William) of North Las Vegas, Nevada; Mary Brown of Phoenix, Arizona; Richard Brown of St. George, Utah; Connie Larson (Steven) of St. George, Utah; Carol Vestal (Michael) of Lone Tree, Colorado; Dorothy Nuttall (Lee) of Rescue, California; Joseph Brown (Teresa) of Bountiful, Utah, Danelle Boxberger (Garrick) of St. George, Utah and Jacque Cannon of Las Vegas, Nevada; her 29 grandchildren Johnny, Eric, Heather, Billy, Stephanie, Jenn, Shanda, Nola, Carmelle, Chet, Jeremy, Tacee, Skyler, Lexie, Jared, Ben, Sydney, Lizzie, Garrison, Nick, Maggie, Cora, Corbin, Matthew, Frank, Mckay, Kenny, Mason and Adelle; great-grandchildren Brenden, Maggie, Sara, Tanner, Yeager and Norma; her brother Ted Owens (Christine); and her in-laws Ruth Owens, James Brady and Marlene Owens. Betty was preceded in death by her parents and her siblings Georgie Cuff (Adrian), Jack Owens (Marie), Lola Barton (Ren), Glayd Owens, Sara Brady, Norma Owens and Wayne Owens.

The family would like to thank Dr. Joseph Te, the nursing staff on Third West of Dixie Regional Medical Center, the staff of the Huntsman Cancer Institute and the Southern Utah Home Care and Hospice caregivers with a special thanks to Lynette and Candice.
