Funeral Services For Mrs. Joseph Owens


Funeral services for Mrs. Joseph (Ruth) Owens were held Thursday, May 18, in the Panguitch South ward chapel. Prayer in the home was by Bishop Jay A. Riggs.

The grave was dedicated by Jack Owens; burial was in the Panguitch Cemetery under direction of Neal S. Magleby Mortuary.


Ruth. D. Owens was born Nov. 1, 1896 at Panguitch, a daughter of Sarah Henrie and George G. Dodds. She married Joseph Owens on Dec. 21, 1914 at Panguitch; their marriage was later solemnized In the St. George Temple. They were the parents of nine children, eight are still living, they are Joseph L., Lark; Glayd T., Panguitch; Ted D. and Douglas Wayne, Salt Lake City; Mrs. Adrian (Georgie) Cuff, Kearns; Mrs. Joseph L. (Lola) Barton, Mrs. James (Sara) Brady, Henderson, Nev.; Mrs. Lewis (Betty) Brown, Las Vegas. She Is survived by her husband, children, 46 grandchildren, and two brothers and two sisters. David H. Dodds, Perris, Calif; Glynn C. Dodds, Citrus Heights, Calif; Mrs. John H. (Argie) Peterson, Twin Falls, Idaho; Mrs. Bern (Lyle) Miller, Panguitch.


Mrs. Owens was active in LDS Church activities, serving many years as a teacher in Mutual, Primary, Sunday School and Relief Society. For many years she served as a member of the Relief Society Food committee. She worked the past three summers at the Beaver Dam Lodge at Panguitch Lake for Mr. and Mrs. Ronald Early to help keep their son Wayne in the French Mission for three years.


Ruth's husband and son Wayne were unable to attend the funeral services and her son Glayd and his wife stayed with them at the hospital. All other children, most of their grandchildren and all of her brothers and sisters and their families attended the funeral; also all of her husband's brothers and sisters and their families attended, as did a largo number of other relatives and friends.
