In Memoriam Samuel O. Colt. Sam, who suddenly passed away on Tuesday evening, June 10, at the age of 85, is fondly remembered by his many friends in Colorado Springs.

Many of these friends met Sam through his restaurant businesses, the last being Giuseppes's Old Depot in partnership with Ed and Joanne Colt. In this setting he was a gracious host who loved greeting and insuring that all the customers were comfortable and enjoyed a good libation and hearty meal.

Others remember Sam's dedication to his fitness as he made it to the Downtown Y every morning, even to the final week of his life. His tenacity and commitment to his workouts were always the envy of his friends.

Sam also had a love of automobiles. His friends were never surprised when Sam came driving up in another classic auto. He loved to "wheel and deal" as he traded one set of wheels for another.

But, above all, Sam was an avid sportsman. Hunting and fishing were the loves of his life. He hunted big game as a young man, taking many trophies and then turned to only ducks and geese in later life. Every October found him at the "Duck Ranch" near Alamosa on opening day waiting for the ducks and geese to fly. Also, Sam loved to fish and invested in several lakes, the first being Ice Lake in Buena Vista.

Many of us were the recipients of his invitation to Ice Lake and then later to Cathedral Lake off Gold Camp Road. One of his most favorite and regular guests was the late Mayor Isaac and once John Elway and some football buddies showed up at Ice Lake to try their hand at the huge trout.

Sam's greatest pleasure was watching the fun his friends had in landing fish in one of his lakes. As their reward, he would treat them to a drink and a barbeque as the sun set in the west.

So farewell, Sam Colt. You will be missed and remembered, for being unique and special to all of us. A remembrance happy hour in memory of Sam will be held tomorrow, Friday, June 20, at 5pm at Guiseppe's Depot. The Friends of Sam Colt.
