Obituary
The following tribute was written in memory of Samuel E. Allen, who died at his home in Empire City, Kansas, May 2, 1905:
We miss among our dearest friends
A dear familiar face,
A loving one from us has gone
Oh! Who can fill his place?
The voices of the dear ring out
Upon the open air,
And other forms glide swiftly by
But our loved one is not there.
Samuel, the loved and lost
From earth has passed away,
His work was finished here below
God said, “No longer stay.”
The friends mourn their sad, sad loss
Since this dear one has gone,
But patiently they bear their cross
Saying, “Thy will be done.”
We trust he is an angel there
In yon abode of bliss,
Oh, who could wish to call him back
To such a world as this?
But when life's pilgrimage is done
And all our cares are o'er,
We hope to meet this loved one
Where parting is no more.
