He married Philura Holcomb, born in New Canaan, Connecticut 4 January 1768, the daughter of David and Philura (Hollenbeck) Holcomb. They lived in the towns of Savoy, Adams, and Williamstown in Berkshire County, Massachusetts before removing the Hoosick Falls, Rensselaer County, New York where Philura died in 1833. Nathaniel came to Rockon with his children in the spring of 1836, and his sons claimed the land west of the river along South Bluff Road and next to where Carpenter's bridge is located.
