Manhattan ML #5557 shows that Henry Angell, a Baptist minister of 110 Avenue C, NYC, married them on 20 Sep 1870. Witnesses were John A. Owens and Charles Sears, brother of the groom. James, 25, was a mechanic, son of James Sears and his wife Rachel Serven.

1880 census shows James Sears living at 245 Manhattan Avenue, Brooklyn, NY, occupation: jeweler. Living with him were his wife, Sarah, aged 29, children Gussie (Agusta), aged 6, and Seymour, 1 and 1/12. Also living with the family is Brown Sears, aged 40 and a jeweler. Both James and Brown Sears list their mother as born in New Jersey and their father in Ireland, with Brown listed as "brother."

Lived in Greenpoint, Brooklyn until the 1890s when James moved the family to Southampton, Long Island, where he had a jewelry store. The older children did not move from Brooklyn with them.

Located on the 1900 census living with his wife, daughter Mabel Serven Sears, and brother, Brown Sears at 744 Humboldt St., Brooklyn, NY. Both his and his brother's occupation was listed as jeweler.

Queens, NY Death Certificate # 2508; 65 years of age; father was James Sears, born in Ireland; mother unknown; address given as Walton and Jeffrey Street; died of apoplexy at Mary Immaculate Hospital, Jamaica; buried in Section 17, Lot 296, East Part, Cypress Hills Cemetery, Queens/Brooklyn, NY. Family plot was purchased by him in 1886 and contains 12 burials.
