The obituary of Ella's mother, Mary Chase Nichols, indicates that Ella and Charles were living in Forest Lake, Minnesota at the time of her death in 1893. At the time of the 1900 and 1910 census Charles and Ella were living in Los Angeles. On June 4, 1914 Ella married Herbert F. Stone in Los Angeles. At the time of the 1920 census Ella and Herbert were living together in Los Angeles with Ella's daughter Lula S. McCombe Grubbs. They lived on South Georgia Street and Herbert gave his occupation as carpenter. In 1923 Ella died and was buried with her sister Mary Ann Nichols Schoonmaker and her brother-in-law George N. Schoonmaker who had died about 20 years before. The cemetery she was buried in was less than three miles from South Georgia Street.
