Hiram P. Thorpe was born in Kansas reportably to the son of an Irishman and a Native woman. Hiram was the father of Jim Thorpe 'the greatest athlete of all time'. After leaving Kansas he settled on part of the allotment given to his wife Charlotte View (Vieux). Charlotte died in 1900 and is buried in the Sacred Heart Cemetery. Hiram was a member of the Sac and Fox tribe, Charlotte was a member of the Pottawtomie tribe.
