Ralph B. Mackall, 89

East Liverpool -- Ralph B. Mackall, 89, of Highland Drive died at 6:45 a.m. Sunday, June 1, 2008, at home following a lengthy illness. Born Oct. 22, 1918, in East Liverpool, a son of Jennie and Ralph Mackall, he was a lifetime area resident. He worked as a chief inspector in the cold strip at the former Crucible Steel, retiring in 1982. A graduate of the class of 1936 of East Liverpool High School, he was a member of the Car Barn Heathens and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. A member of St. John's Lutheran Church, he served on church council many years and was property chairman. He enjoyed jogging and was often seen along area roads up into his 70s. His wife, Jean R. Mackall, whom he married Aug. 10, 1942, died Feb. 14, 2008. He is survived by two daughters, Mrs. Susie Leon of Rogers, and Vicki Lane and her husband, Kenny, of East Liverpool, as well as a grandson whom he raised, Charlie Goodballet of Lisbon. Also surviving are four grandchildren, Charlene Wilson of Chicago, Britt Lane of East Liverpool, Kendra Bowersock and her husband, Casey, of East Liverpool and Michael Leon of Rogers. There are seven great-grandchildren and two great-great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by a grandson, Joey Hoppel; a son-in-law, Tom Leon; and two brothers, Charles and Hugh Mackall. Pastor Paul Burgeson of St. John's Lutheran Church is to conduct services at 11 a.m. Wednesday at the Dawson Funeral Home, where friends may call from 4 to 8 p.m. Tuesday. The Tri-State Veterans Burial Group along with the W.Va. Honor Guard is to provide full military honors. Burial is to be in Columbiana County Memorial Park, followed by a gathering at the church.
