The son of Edward and Elizabeth Frances (Hadley) Wyman, Henry was the assistant postmaster of St. Louis. He began his business career at the age of 17 in a wholesale grocery house (1868-1861) and then worked for the United States Customs Service as special deputy surveyor of St. Louis (1867-1880). He became the secretary and treasurer of St. Louis and Mississippi Valley Transportation Company (1880-1903) before becoming the assistant postmaster of St. Louis in 1904.
