Son of William Thomas and Mabel (nee Calder) Offutt. Retired from the Cleveland Police Department as a detective in 1966, after over 30 years of service. Started out as an Ambulenceman, earned the nickname "The Stork" due to his assisting in the delivery of over 30 births. Avid fisherman.
