Johnathan Cundiff was possibly born in May of 1867 at Lick Creek, Morgan County, Kentucky but probably at or around Moore's Ferry of Bath County, Kentucky. His parents were Stephen and Eliza Caroline (Gose) Cundiff. The family was living at Lick Creek in the 1860's but by 1870 when Johnathan was 3 years old were living at Moore's Ferry in Bath County so it is difficult to determine where John was born or the date.
As a child he was known as Johnathan but later on went by John and was known to some as John N. or John Nathan.
On August 26, 1894 in Rowan County he married Mary Elizabeth "Molly" Foster daughter of Alonzo and Sarah (McClain) Foster. They were married by Reverend H. G. Alderson and the witnesses were Mary's father Alonzo and Anne Coffee. Molly passed away on July 18, 1912 and is buried along with her parents in the Clearfield Cemetery at Morehead. John, Mary and family were living at Freestone at the time of their deaths. John was a member of the Jr. Order Of United American Mechanics.
