Former Resident Dies in Warren County

Joseph L. Spick, 80, former Wayne County resident, died at his home at Wick, Sunday, Dec. 16. Joseph L. Spick, son of Joseph and Sophia Spick, was born Nov. 23, 1872 at Murray, Iowa. He was the second of ten children. After living a long and useful life for over 80 years he died at his home in Wick, Sunday, Dec. 16, 1951. He attended school in Murray. There he attended church and in 1909 was baptized in the Christian church.

On January 25, 1909 [in Clarke County, Iowa] he was united in marriage to Mazie Ethel Bergsma. Into their home six children were born, Dorothea, Joseph, Ina, John, Jane nad Lila. [Mr. Spick] had been a farmer all of his life. In 1921 he moved to Warren County near Wick, where he had lived all these years. He was a good farmer, loved to raise good stock. He loved to feed stock and ship them to market.

He is survived by his widow and six children, Mrs. (Charles) Dorothea Dunn, Norwalk; Joe of Wick; Mrs. (Clarence) Ina Miller, Des Moines; John of Wick; Mrs. (Max Jr.) Jane Helms, Avon Lake, and Mrs. (Clarence) Lila Campbell, Indianola; nine brothers and sisters, Mrs. Amelia Moffitt and Al of Lorimor, Mrs. Celia Kels, Des Moines, Mrs. Anna Winning and Charles of Bozeman, Mont.; Mrs. Mary Houston and Ed of Winterset, Mrs. Lila Westerfield and Mrs. Kate Myers of Murray and eight grandchildren and many other relatives and friends.

Mr. Spick resided on a farm near Corydon about 3 years before moving to Warren County. He is a brother-in-law of Mrs. Charley Robb of Corydon. Mr. and Mrs. Robb attended the funeral which was held at Wick on Tuesday, Dec. 18. Burial was at Wick.
