C. E. Stone Dies At Lutheran Hospital


C. E. Stone, well-known and highly respected resident of Red Bird, passed away at the Lutheran Hospital in St. Louis New Year's Day at the advanced age of 81 years, 4 months and 26 days. Mr. Stone was taken to the hospital five days before his death after suffering a stroke while visiting his children in St. Louis.


Charles Edward Stone was born on Lanes Prairie on August 5, 1869, a son of the late William land Rebecca (Wiseman) Stone. He grew to manhood on Lanes Prairie and on April 3, 1892, was united in marriage to Miss Amelia Breuer who preceded him in death. To this union eight children were born, one of whom, Everett, preceded him in death. The following children survive: Edgar Stone of Bland, Arthur Stone of Los Angeles, California; Mrs. Walter Kiger and Russell Stone of Red Bird; Mrs. Athol Wynn of Jennings; Martin Stone of Marshall and Mrs. Edgar Satterfield of St. Louis. He is also survived by 16 grandchildren and 16 great-grandchildren.


Mr. Stone retired from farming several years ago and moved to Red Bird where he has since made his home. He was a member of Cuba Lodge A. F. & A. M. and of the Church of Christ at Oak Grove.


Funeral services are being held this (Thursday) afternoon at the Church of Christ at Oak trove with interment in the Oak Grove Ceme tery, the pastor, Rev. O. A. Mallow officiating.
