Mrs. Nettie M. Frost
Montrose Pioneer,
Dies There Saturday

Montrose March 20
Mrs. Nettie M. Frost, widow of Gus Frost, passed away at the home of her daughter, Mrs. C.A. Gordon, Saturday after a long invalidism. Mrs. Frost had been in frail health for several years, and two years ago suffered a broken hip in a fall at her home. She was taken to the Hartman Home for care until Mr. and Mrs. Gordon moved back to Montrose from Estes Park a year ago. And since that time has made her home with them.
Born Feb. 1 I860 at Ionia, Mich., Nettie M Ross spent her early life in Michigan and California. She was married Oct. 27 1880 at Vacaville, Calif., to Gus Frost. The couple came to Montrose soon after their marriage and took an active part in early building of the community.
Mr. Frost helped to Build the first railroad into this section, and when the Indians were removed, homesteaded north of the Menoken School where the family lived for many years. A school built near the Frost Ranch still carries the family name. Mr. Frost engaged in lumber work for a number of years, and the family moved to Montrose in 1906.
Mr. and Mrs. Frost and her brothers, J. J. and L. E. Ross were In the first caravan of white persons coming into this area to establish homes, and all have watched during the years, and aided in many projects to make the Valley a better place to live. All have passed away, but landmarks carrying their names will long remain as a monument to their pioneering in the Valley.
Mrs. Frost had been a member of various clubs and organizations during her Life, but the past few years has continued membership only to The Women's Union of the Union Congregational Church Silver Star Chapter, No. 40, Order of Eastern Star.
Survivors Include two daughters, Mrs. Gordon and Mrs. R. M. O'Rourke of Telluride: a brother, Elmer H. Ross, Eugene, Ore., two sisters, Mrs. Hettie M. Ryan, Vacaville, Calif., and Mrs. B. A. Casner, Montrose; four grandchildren and six great-grandchildren.
Funeral Services are scheduled for Monday afternoon at 2:00 with Dr. Mark T. Warner of The United Presbyterian Church officiating. Burial, under the direction of the Montrose Funeral Home will be in Cedar Cemetery.
