Ernesto Marquez Alires, 55, died Monday in Central. Mr. Alires was born in Central and was a lifelong resident. He was a communicant of the Santa Clara Catholic Church in Central; and was a veteran of the Korean War and was highly decorated. Mr. Alires is survived by four daughters, Stella Pena of Bayard, and Mary Rose Alires, Vivian Alires and Victoria Alires, all of Central; three sons, Ernest Alires Jr. of Carlsbad, and Larry Alires and Gilbert Alires, both of Austin, Texas; three sisters, Beatrice Olson and Lorenza Kirker of Central and Amelia Garza of Los Angeles, Calif., and 18 grandchildren. He was preceded in death by his wife, Catherine Chacon Alires, in 1982. Rosary recitation will be held at 7 tonight in Santa Clara Catholic Church. Mass of the Resurrection will be at 10 a.m., Thursday, also in the Santa Clara Catholic Church. The Rev. Paul Ragazinskas will officiate. Burial will follow in the Fort Bayard National Cemetery with full military honors conducted by American Legion Allingham-Golding Post No. 18. Serving as pallbearers will be Javier Rodarte, Joseph Rodriguez, Merejildo Baca, Michael Rodriguez, Raymond Serna and Servando Gonzales. Honorary pallbearers will be Brub Stone, Augustin Chacon, Steve Harvey, Alex Provencio and Danny Joe Alires. Arrangements are with the Wheeler Funeral Home of Silver City.
