Son of Robert Ernest Alley & Lillie Jane Case. Husband of Carrie Belle Shelton (ma. 1948).

Mr. Orell Wade Alley, 96, passed away at his home in Stokesdale surrounded by his family on April 12, 2024. He was born in Rockingham County to the late Robert Ernest and Lillie Jane Case Alley. He graduated from Madison High School and Kings Business School. Orell proudly served his country in the United States Coast Guard. He was a member of Gideon Grove United Methodist Church for over 75 years where he sang in the choir. He held many positions there including being a Sunday School teacher for over 55 years. He worked in management at Sears and Roebuck Mail Order Center for 39 years, volunteered with Meals on Wheels for 30 years and was a Stokesdale Fire District Board of Directors member for many years.

In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by four brothers: Woodrow, Warner, Wartha, and Winfred Alley.

He is survived by his loving wife of 75 years Carrie Belle Shelton Alley, two daughters; Karen Eanes (Jimmie) and Cheryl Stigall (John), four grandchildren; John Eanes (Kelley), Jill Gibson (Brian), Matthew Stigall (Laura) and Lauren Dixon (Phillip); eight great-grandchildren, brothers-in-law; Edward Shelton, Eugene Shelton (Gwynn), and David Shelton; and a host of nieces, nephews and extended family.

A funeral service will be conducted 2:00 PM Tuesday April 16, 2024, at Gideon Grove United Methodist Church in Stokesdale. Interment will follow in the church cemetery.

The family will receive friends immediately following the service in the church.

The family would like to thank the caregivers for their love and care.

The family asks that in lieu of flowers memorial donations be sent to Gideon Grove United Methodist Church in honor of Orell.
