Hutchinson Tufts (Sr.) was the son of Benjamin & Mary (Hutchinson) Tufts. He married Mary (Glover) Tufts in Malden, MA on 17 Jan 1769. They had four children, Hutchinson (Jr.), and three daughters all named Mary. Two of those daughters share a headstone with their father. Hutchinson Tufts (Sr.) served in the Revolutionary War in 1780 as a member of the crew on the privateer brigantine Saratoga.

Hutchinson, the son of Benjamin Tufts and Mary Hutchinson was born on 25 January 1743 at Medford, Massachusetts. Hutchinson married Mary Grover, the daughter of John and Hannah (Oakes) Grover on 17 January 1769 at Malden, Massachusetts. They had four children born at Medford:
1. Hutchinson Tufts Jr. (b. 16 Dec 1769; d. 29 Dec 1819, Medford, MA), m. 21 May 1795 at Charlestown, MA, Mary Locke (1775-1816)
2. Mary Tufts (b. 1774; d. 1779),
3. Mary Tufts (b. 31 Jan 1782; d. 4 Jul 1849, Lancaster, MA), m. 1801, Jonathan Locke (1778-1839)
4. Mary Tufts (b. 1799; d. 1799)
Hutchinson Tufts Sr. died on 2 August 1800 in his 57th year at Medford and is buried in the Salem Street Burying Ground at Medford, Middlesex, Massachusetts.
