He enlisted in 4th US Volunteer Infantry Co D on 18 Jun 1861 in Yadkin Co NC captured 01 Jul 1863 at Gettysburg PA confined at Davids Island in NY Harbor. Prisoner exhanged 16 Sep 1863 at City Point VA.

Captured again on 22 Jul 1864 at Picketts Farm VA confined at Point Lookout MD took the Oath of Allegiance there on 18 Oct 1864.

He married Nancy Jane Williams in 1867 Surry Co NC they had two daughters Mary Elizabeth and Nancy Isabell.

Although no grave has been positively located for him in this cemetery his brother and father are here that were living near in 1870 census and it is reasonable that he is too.
