Known in the family as Hattie, Harriet Adams was the daughter of Joseph Adams and his wife Margaret Ropp. She was born in Iowa and grew up on her parents farm in Hamilton County. (She was recorded there with them in the 1870 and 1880 census).

Hattie married one of the Neese brothers, like her sister Dora, and then left Iowa for Oklahoma where she remained.
