Jane Bennett Smith

Jane Bennett Smith passed away peacefully on June 23, 2023, in the Logan Regional Hospital surrounded by family. She was born on August 20, 1932, in Ogden, Utah to Marion Hodson Bennett and Ora Egbert Bennett.

She spent her early years in Kaysville, Utah before moving to Winder, Idaho. She graduated from Preston High School in 1950 and worked at Foss Drug and Anderson Lumber. In 1955, Jane was called to serve a mission for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints in the Western States Mission where she served in the mission home and met many of her life-long friends.

After returning home, she moved to Salt Lake City and attended the LDS Business College. Here, she was introduced by one of her best friends to Theron J. Smith of Cleveland, Idaho at a baseball game. Theron and Jane dated long distance and fell in eternal love. They were married on October 14, 1960, in the Logan LDS Temple. Jane and Theron spent their early years on their ranch in Cleveland, Idaho until Theron passed away unexpectedly of a heart attack in 1977. Jane dedicated her remaining years to raising her family on her own.

Jane was an active member of the LDS Church her entire life. She was devoted to her callings and rarely missed a Sunday meeting. Her life was exemplified by service to others. She held many callings in the church in the Primary, Young Women's, Sunday School, and Relief Society organizations where she was a teacher and in the presidency.

Jane spent more than 25 years employed in the office at the Franklin County Medical Center. She made many of her closest friends while working there.

Family was at the center of Jane's whole life. Her grandchildren and great grandchildren were the light of her life. The highlight of her days were phone calls and visits from each of them. It was also very important to her to support and attend every reunion, baptism, blessing, wedding reception, shower, and any other extended family gathering she possibly could. Her presence always brought joy to those in attendance.

Jane is survivedd by her son Theron (Marie) Smith, Preston, Idaho; Marian Smith Leonhardt, Logan, Utah; Dirk Parker Smith, Washington, DC; 10 grandchildren, TJ (Lacy) Smith, Treasureton, Idaho; Dustin (Trisha) Smith, Thatcher, Idaho; Sasha Leonhardt (Ben) Burt, Clarkston, Utah; Skyler (Laci) Smith, Weston, Idaho; Jeremy (Katherine) Smith, Syracuse, Utah; and 16 great-grandchildren. She is also survivedd by a sister, Marjene Bennett Campbell, Logan, Utah; and, a brother, Marion Paul Bennett, Kaysville, Utah. She is preceded in death by her parents, Marion Hodson Bennett and Ora Egbert Bennett; her husband, Theron Junior Smith; and two daughters, Martha Smith and Malinda Smith.

Funeral services will be held on Thursday, June 29, 2023, at 11:00 a.m. in the Willow Valley Ward Chapel, 825 N. 200 W., Logan, Utah. Viewings will be held Wednesday from 6-8 p.m. at Webb Funeral Home, 1005 South 800 East, Preston, Idaho and Thursday from 9:30-10:30 a.m. at the church. Interment will be in the Logan City Cemetery. Memories and condolences may be shared with the family at webbmortuary.com
