Mathew Deaver was the second person buried in the Old Liberty Cemetery, the first being Moses Cornelius. Mathew lived in a cedar log house a few miles south of Oneonta. He was killed when a falling limb from a tree struck him on the head and crushed his skull. His wife Sheba was buried beside him in February 1854.
