John was born in either Russell Co. or Northumberland Co, Virginia, the sixth child of Capt. John Damron and Anna Ladd. He married circa 1813 in Illinois to 14 year old Sarah Elizabeth Shultz.
John and Sarah were the parents of 10 children.
John, Jr. was one of the original Mercer Colonists in northeast Texas. He also may have been a judge, but that information is quite speculative.
John died in Ellis Co, TX in 1856. His grave location is unknown at this time.
