Son of Gabriel Hollingsworth Sr. and Mary Ann Baker.

Gabriel Sr. and many of his siblings were among the pioneer settlers of Schuyler county.

Gabriel Jr. had eight known step-siblings and four known siblings.

Gabriel Jr.'s step-brother Frank was also a Colorado deputy sheriff.

A BROWNING BOY KILLED

Abe Hollingsworth is in receipt of a telegram from his brother Frank at Denver, Col., stating their brother Gay was shot and killed Sunday the 11th inst. Young Hollingsworth was 23 years old, of portly build, and in point of intelligence was above the average. He carried a life insurance policy, the benefit of which was his widowed mother, whom he loved so dearly and provided so generously for, will get.

LATER: Gay was shot while in the discharge of official duty, by the notorious desperado Newton Vorce, who was resisting arrest by Deputy Sheriff Frank Hollingworth's posse, of which Gay was acting in the capacity of a special deputy. The remains of the bold young deputy, accompanied by his brother Ross and sister Callie (Mrs Conaway) will arrive here to-morrow night or Friday morning for interment.

We copy the following particulars from a daily paper -

DENVER, Col., Dec. 12. Several days ago, at Deer Trail, Col., an attempt was made to arrest Newton Vorce, a desperado who for six months has been terrorizing people in the eastern part of the state.

A fight ensued, Vorce shot Officer Cantley, breaking his right arm, and escaped. Yesterday he was located near Corona, a small town about one hundred miles east of here. Yesterday morning a couple of deputy sheriffs and several citizens left here to arrest the outlaw. They reached the cabin in which he was hiding late in the afternoon. A fight took place and a telegram just received says that Gay Hollingsworth, a brother of the deputy sheriff, was killed on the first fire.

No further particulars are at hand.
