AN OLD SETTLER GONE:

G. B. Hollingsworth, one of the first settlers of this county, died at his home in Browning, Jan. 8, 1887. Deceased was born in Jackson county, Tennessee, Mach 26, 1813, and was but 11 years old when his father settled in this county. His mother was the first person buried in the Messerer graveyard. Excepting S. B. Dray, Mr. Hollingsworth resided a ' greater number of years in the village of

Browning than any person either living or dead. He was twice married and was the father of fourteen children, nine by the first wife and five by the one who survives him. Eight of his children are living,

five of which were by his first wife. So far as known to the writer, Uncle Gay's life, measurably speaking, was uneventful. Physically, he was a man of robust constitution, and up to a few yours ago when his health was undermined with dropsical affection, had never experienced but a very little sickness. Funeral services were held in the Christian church last Monday, conducted by Elder J. B. Royal

of Vermont, after which the remains were interred in the Baders cemetery.
