Died in Hermon village, on Nov. 18, 1902, Alanson A. Matteson, aged 73 years.

The deceased is well known to all citizens of St. Lawrence county, having served a term of clerk of the county as supervisor of the town of Hermon for several terms and as deputy collector of customs in the Ogdensburg custom house for several years. He went to Hermon and commenced in the hard ware house in 1857 and soon thereafter formed a co-partnership with Solomon J. Childs, and continued in the business until 1892, when they were succeeded by J. G. Conkey, who had been identified in their business for many years.

Mr. Matteson possessed one of those genial natures and dispositions that made all with whom he came in contact, in social and business life, his friends. He was a man of great executive ability, foremost as a citizen in all that attended to the welfare of his town, and prided himself upon the record of having been one of its early settlers in its business commencement. Lately his failing health severed him from his town's busy circle. His illness of a few days had scarcely been known to his fellow townsmen when at early morn his death was announced.

He leaves a large circle of friends and acquaintances who will deeply feel the loss this excellent man, and the citizens of Hermon have lost one of its enterprising business men. He leaves a widow and one son to mourn the loss of a loving, kind and faithful husband and father.

Funeral services were held yesterday afternoon at 2 o'clock, Dr. Gunnison, of Canton, officiatlng.
