Bobby Cumpsten

April 13, 1923-April 30, 2008

Age: 85

Residence: Loveland

Tribute: Bobby Morgan "Bob" Cumpsten was born in Las Vegas, N.M., to Robert W. and Alta M. (Morgan) Cumpsten.

Mr. Cumpsten was a tech sergeant in the Army Air Corps from 1942-45 and served in England, France and Germany as a glider mechanic.

On Feb. 6, 1946, he married Rosemary M. Feik in Fleming and started cotton farming in Hagerman, N.M. They moved back to Colorado and started dryland farming near Sterling.

In 1952, the Cumpstens moved to Loveland, where they settled on Derby Hill and farmed. Mr. Cumpsten also was a John Deere Implement dealer and a Big Thompson Feed Elevator operator. He retired from Hewlett-Packard after 20 years.

After retiring, Mr. Cumpsten enjoyed restoring his antique tractors, driving through the drylands and visiting with friends and neighbors. He will be missed for his quick wit and love of chocolate.

Mr. Cumpsten was a lifetime member of the Veterans of Foreign Wars Post 41 and a member of St. John the Evangelist Catholic Church, both in Loveland.

Mr. Cumpsten died April 30 at McKee Medical Center Hospice Care Center, Loveland.

Survivors: His wife, Rosemary Cumpsten of Loveland; his sons and their wives, Dick and Dorothy Cumpsten of Greeley, Dave and Diane Cumpsten and Don and Debbie Cumpsten, all of Loveland; his daughters, Annette Durham, of Scottsdale, Ariz., Marylyn Boyd of Windsor, Shirley and Irene Cumpsten, both of Greeley, Linda Cumpsten and Vern Rasmussen of Windsor, and Cindy Wambolt and husband Jim of Ault; a sister, Polly Allbright of Dallas, Texas; 16 grandchildren; and eight great-grandchildren.

Preceded in death by: A son, John Edward Cumpsten, and a sister, Mary Elizabeth.

Services: Memorial Mass was May 5 at St. John's, Loveland.

Interment: Military interment was at Resthaven Memorial Gardens, Fort Collins.
