Sarah (or sometimes she went by her middle name of Ellen) was born in Ohio to James C. Mackey and Delilah Butler. She married on Aug. 29, 1868 in Tipton Co, IN to John Franklin Blackburn. To this union 8 children were born, with five living to adulthood. Sarah and John moved from Tipton Co, IN to Darke Co, OH. On Aug. 18, 1892, Sarah divorced John for infidelity. On Jan. 22, 1897, Sarah married George W. Turner using the name of Ellen Blackburn. She and George divorced by 1910. The last 45 days of her life, she moved to Piqua, Miami Co, OH where she died of an obstructed gallbladder producing septic poisoning under the name of Sarah E. Blackburn. She was buried on Mar 30, 1912.
