Wife of John C Watts
Daughter of Frederic and Catharine "Kitty" Bruner Sageser

At the age of 92 years, Mrs. Susan SAGESER WATTS, on Monday evening, Jan. 30th, passed over the river of death into the "Land Elysian." The deceased was the eldest child of Frederick SAGESER who was of a German family from Maryland that settled in Kentucky about the close of the last century. Frederick SAGESER , who was born in 1778, was the son of Jacob David SAGESER. The first marriage recorded after the organization of Jessamine Co., was that of Frederick Sageser, the father of Mrs. WATTS. He was married by the Rev. Nathaniel HARRIS, Oct. 3, 1790, to Catherine BRUNER, daughter of Henry BRUNER. Before his marriage to Miss BRUNER, he was employed by his wife's father to do a job of chopping; In the bargain, nothing was said as to what should be done with the timber cleared off. SAGESER took advantage of this by felling the trees from the piece he was cleaning into the adjoining woods, making double work for the next cleaning. While doing the job of chopping, this ould time lover courted and won the heart of Catherine BRUNER. Catherine's father approved of the proposed marriage, and lay low and kept shady till the wedding was over and the chain rivited fast, when he stepped in front and said: "Frederick, when you did that chopping for me, you cheated me. I have paid you my daughter for it and that is all you will get." This was told a few years before Mr. SAGESER's death in 1856. Mrs. WATTS was married to John WATTS about the year 1820. She was the mother of Catherine "Kitty" ,Elisabeth ,Celia Ann Watts ,George Wallace "Crow", John C Watts Jr.,Mary Ann Watts, James Monroe and William Henry Watts. Preceded in death the late William Harrison WATTS Sr. Jessamine co,, Frederick WATTS and Andrew Jackson WATTS of Florida. Mrs. WATTS was far more than a member of the Methodist Episcopal Church, in which she lived, beloved and respected by all who knew her. Her long life, like her father's was modest and retiring, and her end was peace. At one time she lived for a time in 1830 in Garrard County, Kentucky.
