Rodney was born in Egg Harbor City and served as the postmaster at Green Bank before the war. He served as a Corporal in the Airforce serving as a ground crew member in England during World War II and participated on several flights. His brother Glendin remembered that Rodney later had nightmares after finding men's arms in returning ships.

Democratic Committeeman in Washington Township. Big supporter of John Kennedy in 1960.

Chief Ranger, Wharton State Forest. Retired February 1976. Served as Forest Fire Lookout at the Batsto Tower on the Washington Turnpike.
