James L. Shea, 89, of Worthington, died peacefully, supported by his loving wife and family at Hampshire Care, Leeds on Thursday, May 1, 2008. He was born on April 26, 1919 in Chicopee Falls to John F. and Nellie (Hederman) Shea. He attended St. Patrick School and graduated from Cathedral High School, Springfield, Class of 1936. He received both his bachelor and master's degrees from Boston College. He taught at Holy Cross College in Worcester, the College of Our Lady of the Elms, Chicopee and Hampden College of Pharmacy, Willimansett before he became the Audio-Visual Director of the Chicopee Public School System. He and his family moved to Worthington in 1969 where they were parishioners of St. Thomas Parish, Huntington. He leaves his devoted wife of 57 years, Barbara (Simonich) Shea, his son, John F. and his wife Mary Ann and their children, Stephen, Theresa and Alice; his son Colin and his wife, Kathleen, and their twin daughters, Maura and Caitlin. He also leaves his sister, Sr. Michael Joanne, SND, of Windsor, CT. Several nephews, nieces and cousins also survive him. Visiting hours will be held on Sunday, May 4, 2008 at the Corridan Funeral Home, 333 Springfield St., Chicopee from 4 to 7 pm. His funeral will be held on Monday, May 5, 2008 from the Corridan Funeral Home at 10 am. followed by his funeral liturgy in Holy Name Church, 33 South St. Chicopee at 11. Burial will follow in Calvary Cemetery, Chicopee. Memorial contributions are requested to be made to the First Responders of the Worthington Fire Dept., Rte. 112, Worthington, MA. 01098.
