Obituary for Edith Evelyn Roberts

Edith Evelyn Roberts, 81, of Pointblank, Texas passed away on July 20, 2015. She was born on June 1, 1934 in Iola, Texas to Melvin and Edna Bruce. She was one of five children, which included sisters, Ruth Whitmire, Cora Lucas, Lena Jarvis and one brother George Bruce.


Edith graduated from Iola High School in 1953 and from there she moved to Houston to begin her career as a phone operator for Southwestern Bell, where she worked for many years. She later married her first husband and had five children, Jesse Hart, Edith Elizabeth Hart, Shirley Ruth Hart, Cynthia Hart and Walter Marion Hart. After hard times, she found an opportunity and went to work for St. Joseph Hospital in Houston while still raising her five young children on her own. In the late 60's she met and married, Bruce Roberts, and they had two children together, Karen and Evelyn. After retiring from St. Joseph Hospital and the passing of her husband, Bruce, she moved to the Pointblank area where she resided till her passing due to complications with diabetes and alzheimer's disease.


Edith leaves her seven children, 19 grandchildren and 15 great-grandchildren to cherish her memory. She is preceded in death by her parents.


The family will receive friends from 5:00 PM till 7:00 PM on Thursday, July 23, 2015 at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. A funeral service will be held at 2:00 PM on Friday, July 24, 2015 in the chapel at Sam Houston Memorial Funeral Home in Huntsville, Texas. Interment will follow the service at Ebenezer Cemetery.
